Our Paris

We’re always asked for travel recommendations when our readers touch down in the old world – and the First Class take on Paris is the foremost request. Having just returned from a brisk, winter weekend in La Ville Lumière, it felt prudent to pen our official, albeit brief, list of Paris finds and put it out into the world. From boulangeries to achats, these mainstays and newcomers are the waypoints to Our Paris. Share them in good company.

1. Mamiche

A Paris list must begin with a proper boulangerie. And Mamiche’s Jambon sammy is a toasty‑warm indulgence that will demand a repeat visit, even during a short stay. The gastronomic law of diminishing returns does not apply here.

2. Early June

A cunning wine bar hosting traveling chefs – the meals & pours & tunes here are sublime. Inside winter’s fogged windows, we found white‑washed walls and farmhouse tables pulsing with a youthful, dinner‑party ambiance. It’s a place where you might make friends with the neighboring table. A home to visceral memories.

3. Le Pain Retrouvé & Rue de Martyrs

Start at Le Pain Retrouvé and stroll (climb) the Rue de Martyrs – a delightful, central vein to Pigalle and Montmartre dotted with petite, family‑owned shops and provisions. We always fancy cooking a meal while traveling, and there are few better streets in Paris to join the locals and pick up regional ingredients. Don’t forget fresh flowers for the table!

4. Centre Commercial

Yes, finding the perfect aged French work coat (bleu de travail) is a must, but we won’t be handing out our vintage shop finds so easily. Centre Commercial is quite the consolation prize: a multi‑brand boutique with European labels and something for everyone. And there are a few locations in Paris!

2 Rue de Marseille, 75010 Paris

5. A Film: La Haine (1995)

An excellent film that was largely shot in the Parisian suburb of Chanteloup-les-Vignes. And while a film is not exactly a prototypical recommendation for a city guide, La Haine is a cultural pick that should not be missed. Let’s call it our recommended in‑flight entertainment for the trip over. Or better yet, the appropriate flick for a cozy evening‑in after trekking about the city. Le Monde est à Nous.
