Our New York
We haven’t called New York home for long – and as such, “Our New York” is limited to West Village. With so much to take in across five boroughs, we just don’t know it all yet. But we do know the doors that we open and close on our little flank of concrete that deserve consistent patronage. This is just the way we see New York, for now.
1. Abingdon Square Park
Pack a book [magazine] and pick a bench. You don’t even need to turn the pages ‑ it can be but a prop to look over the top and admire the passerby. Abingdon Square is quaint and relatively clean. It skews senior in the best of ways ‑ and it’s actually quiet in the way you want it to be. If it happens to be lunch time, drop by Hudson & Charles (the butcher) on your way for a serious sandwich. Their commitment to craft and use of ingredients from the Hudson Valley is first‑rate. Throw a little crust to a pigeon. It’s New York.

2. St Jardim
Much, much more than a quintessential coffee shop. This all‑day café has you covered in the morning with coffee, breakfast bites, and physical newspapers. The afternoons will greet you with rotating natural wine pours and a menu that presents gorgeously‑prepared, Medi‑centric dishes. The small format promotes real creativity in the kitchen. Stay into the evening, and things just simply settle into joy.

3. The Jane Hotel
There are few visitors that hit the pillow within the West Village during a trip to the big city, but it should be considered. If you’re open to a unique experience, it would be a shame to not check into The Jane Hotel. Built in 1908 as a rooming house for sailors, its cabin‑like rooms are rich in history, from housing survivors from the Titanic to Rock‑n‑Roll events in the 1980s. The communal bathrooms are a quirk, but saving some coin to enjoy the city itself is prudent. Have more wiggle room on budget? Upgrade to one of the two “Captain’s Cabins” for greater sq. footage, an on‑suite bathroom, and private outdoor space.

4. J. Mueser
We happen to believe in the importance of dressing well, especially on your travels. While menswear may not be a prototypical recommendation for all of our readers, J. Mueser really does have a little something for everyone. Hand‑made Neapolitan suiting for the dandy, a tasteful selection of ties for those who need an elevated gift, or our favorite series of magazines that are carried in the shop, WM Brown Magazine, for anyone with discerning taste.

5. Cafe Cluny
Smash burgers may be all the rage, but Cluny’s 8oz Creekstone All‑Natural Sirloin is the burger you’re searching for. If nostalgia is a weakness, consider us incapacitated when it comes to biting into the delicate sear of one of these patties. Cluny does a bang‑up job with all the other things that you’d expect from modern, but reverent, French fare. But that burger & fries! We’ll close it with that.
